India’s ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandu met a group of officers of Indian origin serving in the US Navy during a rare visit to the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, calling them a “firm anchor for India-US relations” “. connect.
The Naval Academy has many Indian-American trainees, the second-oldest among the five U.S. service academies.
“Great to meet young Indian-origin officers at the US Naval Academy who proudly serve in the US Navy. A staunch anchor of India-US relations,” Mr Sandu tweeted, posting a photo of him interacting with the officers.
The ambassador discussed with Admiral Sean Barker on February 4 and interacted with some midshipmen of Indian ancestry.
The Naval Academy was established on October 10, 1845, under the leadership of Secretary of the Navy George Bancroft to primarily train officers into the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps.

The entire campus (known to insiders as “The Yard”) is a National Historic Landmark with many historic sites, buildings and monuments.
It replaced the Philadelphia Naval Sanctuary in Philadelphia, the first U.S. Naval Academy between 1838 and 1845, when the Naval Academy was established in Annapolis, Maryland’s capital.
Candidates for admission must normally apply directly to the college and be nominated, usually from a member of Congress. Students are midshipmen’s officers in training. Naval cadet tuition is fully funded by the Navy in exchange for active duty service obligations after graduation.
Each summer, approximately 1,200 “plebes” (short for the ancient Roman word plebeian) enter the Academy for the rigorous Plebe Summer. About 1,000 trainees graduate.
Graduates are commissioned either as an ensign or as an ensign in the Marine Corps 2 | Naval Attaché, Regiment of Washington, D.C., but a few may also be cross-commissioned as officers in other U.S. and allied services.
