Andhra Pradesh flood death toll mounts to 44; Tirupati gets heavy rain

The Andhra Pradesh government said that despite the fact that officials said the situation was dire on Saturday, as many as 44 people were killed and 16 people were still missing after the state’s unprecedented rains.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) office in Amaravati said that in the next three to four days, Rayalaseema and the southern coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, especially parts of Chittoor and Nellore, will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

The state government has placed regional authorities on high alert because the recent heavy rains may damage already filled water tanks, causing downstream villages to be flooded.

The state government issued a statement on Friday that 1,990 villages in 119 Mandals in the Kadapa, Chitur, Anantapur and Nellore regions were affected by the floods, of which 211 villages were completely submerged.

“The rain that began in the first week of this month continues to fall today. It started to rain on 16-17. Rayalaseema has been flooded by heavy rain that has never been seen in history,” the streets of Tirumala and Tirupati in the town. , We experienced heavy rain and vehicles were washed away. Four buses were trapped in the flood. One RTC bus fell off the Nadaluru Bridge, killing 10 people, and the rest were rescued by the SDRF team. Another ten people died in Sivalayan on the bank of the river,” it added.

The government also stated that the power supply in the four regions has been restored and it is providing daily necessities for 95,949 families affected by the flood. It also announced that it will expedite compensation for houses that were completely and partially damaged by the flood.

It said: “For those whose houses are completely damaged, the government will approve a new house worth 180,000 rupees and pay 95,000 rupees at the same time. The compensation for dead cattle will be paid to the owner immediately. In addition, the order to ensure that the cattle are vaccinated. The cattle feed is also ordered. There is no shortage anywhere. It has been instructed to quickly complete enumeration in terms of crop compensation,” it said, according to ANI.

The state government also instructs regional collectors to report on road repairs immediately, evaluate them immediately after receiving these reports, and prioritize and fund these tasks.

The report states that Game Changer has now crossed the ₹110 crore mark at the box office. It minted ₹5.55 crore on its first Wednesday, which is the lowest for the film so far. The film had seen a slight growth on its fifth day of release, with ₹10 crore net. The overall collections now stand at ₹112.26 crore.

Game Changer minted ₹51 crore on its opening day, and saw a dip in collections on its second day with ₹21.6 crore. Day three collections were at ₹15.9 crore whereas day four net was ₹7.65 crore. The film saw a sharp decline in its weekdays and is yet to recover. Game Changer is facing stiff competition from a number of releases, which includes Nandamuri Balakrisha’s Daaku Maharaj, Unni Mukundan’s Marco and Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule.

Amid box office concerns for the film, a pirated version of Game Changer was allegedly aired on a local TV channel and shown in buses. Screenshots of the same surfaced on X, which caught the attention of producer Sreenivas Kumar. He took to his X account to demand strict action on it.

A few days ago, the makers of the film had filed a complaint against individuals for allegedly leaking a pirated version of the film online. The complaint also states that before the film’s release, the producers and a few team members were threatened through social media and messaging platforms like WhatsApp, wherein the same alleged pirates demanded money from producers and threatened to leak the pirated version if their demands were not fulfilled.

Game Changer is directed by Shankar and stars Ram Charan, Kiara Advani, and SJ Suryah. The film has also been released in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam.
