AP Moller-Maersk A/S’s container port operator, APM Terminals Management BV, will cooperate with Taiwan’s container shipping company Wan Hai Shipping Co., Ltd. to bid for container terminal tenders issued by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) as a potential bidder to find and route bundles To secure the volume. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Co., Ltd. (APSEZ) is cooperating with Terminal Investment Ltd, a subsidiary of Mediterranean Shipping Company SA, the world’s second largest container line, to bid for the project. CMA Terminals Holding, a subsidiary of CMA CGM SA, the world’s third largest container shipping company, also hopes to participate in the terminal project, which aims to handle 1.8 million TEUs per year. “APM Terminals has the opportunity to cooperate with Wan Hai Shipping Company, which also has a dominant position in the Nhava Sheva area where JNPT is located,” said a shipping industry executive. Danish shipping giant AP Moller-Maersk also operates Maersk Line, the world’s largest container carrier. In any case, APM Terminals can rely on its support for shipping volume. The shipping industry executives stated that the cooperation with Wanhai Shipping Company, which ranks 10th among the world’s top container carriers, will give APM Terminals additional momentum in the bidding. Gateway Terminals India Pvt Ltd is 74% owned by APM Terminals and operates one of the five container terminals operated by JNPT. In FY21, Concor’s 26%-owned facility handled 1.668 million TEUs. APM Terminals did not cooperate with Concor in the tender for container terminals because the state-owned railway transportation company is preparing to be privatized by the government. Shipping industry executives stated that the clear visibility of the quantity will enable potential bidders to quote competitive royalties per TEU, which is the only basis for deciding the winner.
