Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday that Delhi had reported 4 new cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant, bringing the number of such infections in the country’s capital to 6 cases.
“So far, six people in the capital have been found to be positive for Omicron. One of them has been discharged. They have all been to a foreign country and transferred from (Indira Gandhi International) to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital) airport, “The news organization PTI quoted Jain as saying.
The latest Omicron variant cases bring the country’s total to 45.
The Delhi Minister of Health also stated that the variant has not been spread in the community so far, adding that the situation is still “under control”.
Jain said that so far, 74 passengers have been taken from the airport to LNJP Hospital, which has set up a special ward to isolate and treat suspected Omicron cases. Of these, 36 have been discharged and 38 have been admitted. On December 5, the capital reported the first case of Omicron, after a 37-year-old patient was found to be positive for the variant with mild symptoms. He was discharged from LNJP Hospital after recovering from the virus infection.
As a Ranchi resident, the man traveled from Tanzania to Doha on December 2 and then took a Qatar Airways flight to Delhi from there. He stayed in Johannesburg, South Africa for a week.
