‘Garbage mountains’ in cities to be removed: PM Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised when starting the second phase of the project on Friday that the “garbage hills” in Indian cities would be cleared. Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation. Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 aims to make India’s cities trash-free. AMRUT 2.0 aims to strengthen sewage treatment and provide 100% water supply coverage for all households. When talking about urban water safety, Prime Minister Modi stated that the goal is to expand sewage and septic tank management to ensure that no untreated sewage flows into the river. “When the amount of sewage treatment increases, urban water bodies will become clean, and our rivers will also become clean,” he said.
When talking about the Gazipur landfill in Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said: “Delhi has a mountain of garbage like this. It has been sitting here for many years, waiting to be cleared,” Modi told Urban Affairs Minister Hadip Singh Puri, he nodded in agreement. He said: “This sport in India will also create a lot of’green jobs’.” Prime Minister Modi said that India processes about 100,000 tons of urban waste every day.
“In 2014, less than 20% of waste in India was processed. Now, India processes nearly 70% of waste every day. We have to increase it to 100%,” he said. Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 spends 14.1 crore Modi quoted BR Ambedkar as saying that “Babasaheb” believes that urban development is the main medium for eliminating inequality.
