‘If you stick with the same, adjustments will be difficult’: Shastri to Dravid
The Indian cricket team is going through one of its most difficult times, which started last October with a memorable T20 World Cup in the UAE in the Blues, before captain Virat Kohli lined up, followed by tests and ODIs. Defeat in the series against a rebuilding South African side.
With Kohli no longer at the helm and key players out through injury, which has hurt the team’s mix, new head coach Rahul Dravid needs to move quickly to help the team overcome this difficult phase and prepare for two limited World Cup matches Get ready – 2022 T20 World Cup and 2023 ODI World Cup.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri understands this transition period in Indian cricket and believes that Dravid and the management need to identify the right players who can lead the team forward in the next four or five years. He also believes that India needs to combine youth and experience in the right way and not stay in the same team for too long to ease the adjustment.
“This is a very important period for Indian cricket, there will be a transition period in the next 8-10 months. Identifying the right players who can lead you forward in 4-5 years is very important. I always think young and experienced There should be a mix in between. If your goal is the future, sometimes it needs to change. This is the time. They need to be looking for young people in the next six months, need to hurry. If you hold on for too long then adjust It will be very difficult,” he told Pakistani speed legend Shoaib Akhtar in an interaction on his YouTube channel.
India gears up for 2022 ahead of the T20 World Cup in Australia in October. The team will next play three ODI and T20I games at home against the West Indies before hosting Sri Lanka.
