Is Kendrick Lamar using phrases from Twitter in his rivalry song, Not Like Us, with Drake? “Yes,” say the fans.

The internet is ablaze with allegations following Kendrick Lamar’s most recent diss recordings against Drake, and fans are demanding royalties and proper credit. Rap fans have been speculating that Kendrick Lamar may have used social media messages as inspiration for lyrics on his most recent song, Not Like Us. Fans are guessing who will fire bullets next in the rap spat between Drake and the PRIDE crooner, which has escalated with back-and-forth attacks and a linguistic war.

Kendrick Lamar is accused by fans of copying lyrics.

Fans are swarming social media, accusing Lamar of plagiarism and saying that he plagiarised some important sentences that were taken directly from Twitter users. The lines separating inspiration from imitation in the rap game are being fiercely contested by the two fandoms as a result of this. A fan posted images of several comments on X and commented, “Bruh, I need royalties or I’m not playing this.” It was pointed out which words from the song Not Like Us appeared to have been taken straight from the original.

In one of the pictures, someone wrote, “Certified Lover no, Certified Paedophile,” which is one of the most often cited phrases from Kendrick Lamar’s rap directed at Drake, in which he branded him a “certified Paedophile.” “Kendrick Lamar realised he couldn’t really keep up with Drake rapping in this battle; he couldn’t even refute the allegations or come up with anything original, but the public’s hatred of Drake was too great.” According to a different user, backed by several.

It has also been suggested by some that the musician releases new music every day utilising AI technologies like Gemini and GPT, which is quite improbable for him. Naturally, Kendrick has changed from releasing music every four years to virtually releasing something every day. He’s a scam; he uses ChatGPT to crawl Twitter, and his lyrics are artificial intelligence created. Ghostwriters, hehe. I only hope his voice isn’t artificial intelligence produced.

But many hurried to the rapper’s defence, saying that one must choose a side in this dispute. One admirer supported Lamar, saying, “if you think Kendrick Lamar went on Twitter to find punchlines, you’re delusional.” “Drake fans using tweets of other people also calling him a pedo to defend him LMFAOOO,” another person said.

Lamar and Drake are at odds.

The two rappers have been involved in a feud for months, supposedly dating back to October 6, 2023, when Drake and J. Cole’s song “First Person Shooter” seemed to create the “big 3” in the rap industry, which consists of Lamar, Drake, and J. Cole. Nevertheless, Lamar found the idea offensive and mercilessly attacked the rapper in his subsequent song. On the song “Like That,” by Metro Boomin and Future, he called out J Cole and Drake for “sneak dissing” and rejected their idea of the “big three,” stating that “it’s just big me.” The three rappers proceeded to trade barbs with one another in the ongoing conflict. J. Cole withdrew after releasing “7 Min Drill,” but the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar has become worse.

Post Kanguva debacle, Tamil Nadu producers demand ban of YouTube channels from theatres

This decision comes after the release of Kanguva on November 14, which saw a lot of negative feedback on the opening day from YouTube reviews.

On Wednesday, the Tamil Nadu Producers Council (TNPC) issued a strong statement requesting theatre owners to ban fans’ interviews by YouTube channels on theatre premises post the first day first shows (FDFS) and cooperate in doing away with this FDFS public review and opinion process completely. In a long four-page letter, the Tamil Nadu Producers Council has condemned ‘personal attacks and incitement of hatred in the name of film reviews.’ They said that films like Indian 2, Vettaiyan and Kanguva were highly impacted due to YouTube FDFS public reviews.

What the letter stated

This letter comes after the release of Suriya’s film Kanguva on November 14 which saw a tremendous amount of negative feedback from the audience in the first day first show YouTube reviews and opinion videos. The TNPC wrote that journalists have the right to criticise flaws in the film and talk about the positives and negatives but no one can engage in personal attacks and try to destroy the entire film in their reviews. According to them, this would lead to the downfall of the film industry itself.

The letter also stated, “Critics have every right to review movies. But we request all journalists to write film reviews keeping in mind that hatred towards a film should not be sown in the media because of personal malice. It is imperative that all the associations related to the film industry unite and stop this practice by not encouraging them anymore.”

More details

Kerala was the first state to establish this ban on YouTube reviews. In 2023, Mubeen Rauf, director of Aromalinte Adyathe Pranayam, who was supported by the Producers’ Association filed a case in court to ban YouTube reviewers from theatre premises as their negative public opinion videos were affecting the film business.

The Kerala High Court then issued a directive to the concerned authorities to prevent online reviews of films by social media influencers, YouTube reviewers, and bloggers for seven days following the release of a film.

The court went a step further and even issued notice to the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Central Board of Film Certification to establish clear and transparent guidelines for online film critics and vloggers. Producers felt this move would protect the industry.
