Kanniyakumari – Nagapattinam Highway to become a four-lane

The National Highways Authority of India plans to upgrade the existing two-lane road section between Kanyakumari and Nagapattinam to four lanes.

The move will benefit road users in general and the business community of this coastal city in particular, as shipping shipments to Thiruvananthapuram and Chennai will become a simple matter.

Currently, NHAI is focusing on the first phase of the project and the remaining stretch between Nagapattinam and Chennai will also be converted into a four-lane highway.

This new lane will significantly reduce the traffic between Kanyakumari and Chennai via Madurai and Tiruchi.

Travel time between Kanyakumari and Velankanni will be reduced as the proposed road will provide an easier route for vehicles, which now face a dozen speed switches while crossing villages along the way.

The existing two-lane East Coast Highway will be converted into a four-lane highway to achieve National Highway No. 32.
