Law Roach, Zendaya’s stylist, criticises the “big 5” companies for their previous rejections, saying, “If you say no, it’ll be no forever.”
In a recent episode of The Cutting Room Floor podcast, hosted by Recho Omondi, Law Roach, Zendaya’s longtime personal stylist, disclosed that when she first started her career, major fashion firms turned her down.
“When I would write to Dior, Valentino, Gucci, Saint Laurent, and Chanel, they would all reply, ‘No, try again next year.’” She is very green. Our calendar doesn’t include her,” Roach recollected. “I still own every receipt. Everything is still with me.
With the exception of Valentino, has Zendaya worn any of the “Big 5” on carpets to date?
Designers’ perceptions of clothes did not shift until Zendaya became well-known, making her debut at the Met Gala at the age of eighteen and landing her first American Vogue cover two years later. Law stated that their first hesitation will always be remembered.
She had yet to wear any of those designers when she arrived at American Vogue. He noted that “she still hasn’t,” adding that the Dune actress only started donning Valentino in public after inking a significant deal with the company in 2020.
When Omondi voiced his shock at this, Law said that Zendaya hasn’t worn anything from any of those brands aside from editorial shoots and she won’t be wearing anything from them anytime soon because they rejected her so quickly in the first place.
She has yet to don a Dior outfit on a carpet. She has yet to don a Chanel carpet piece. She still hasn’t worn Gucci on a carpet, regardless of appearance or publicity. When we initially started, no one would lend her things, so at first, it was a need, he told Vogue in February. “As I own a vintage store in Chicago and am from the vintage scene, many of the items she wore were either vintage or from my store.”

The young celebrity has made it obvious that she is a member of Team Jolie, even though she must wait until she reaches 18 to file formal documents like her sister Shiloh did.
