NHAI plans to award Rs 2.25 lakh cr projects during FY21

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to award projects worth Rs 2.25 lakh crore spread over about 5,000 km in FY 2021.

Earlier, NHAI had given Rs 1.71 lakh crore for 141 projects (4,788 km) in FY 2015. The Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) and Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) shares in the FY20 awards were 50% and 49% respectively.

The Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) model paved the way for just two projects. Project Awards for FY 2011 can come up to 5,000 km in total, with HAM expecting the largest share of awards after EPC and BOT with 5–10% of the awards.

NHAI President Dr. SS Sandhu mentioned that they do not consider the funding for the project awards to be an obstacle and that the budget would be more than the previous year’s achievement.

To propose at least Rs 5,100 crore through its first invitation, NHAI officials have already submitted the requisite documents to market regulator SEBI. Along with this, fundraising will also be introduced through the share of toll-operate-transfer (TOT) model and fixed toll.
