Novak Djokovic to pursue legal action after Australia cancels visa

Novak Djokovic, the number one in the world, decided to challenge Australia’s cancellation of his visa.

According to a report in the “Sydney Morning Herald”, Djokovic had to be detained at Melbourne Airport for eight hours, but failed to lodge a complaint with border officials.

As the Australian border guards said he failed to provide proper evidence of entry into Australia, the defending Australian Open champion may now be ordered to leave Melbourne as early as Thursday night.

According to the guidelines, people who have not received the Covid-19 vaccine must show evidence at the border.

Australian Health Minister Greg Hunter confirmed that Australia cancelled the entry visa of the world’s number one Novak Djokovic on Thursday.

Earlier, Djokovic landed in Australia to participate in the Australian Open on the grounds of medical exemption. The specific vaccine exemption cited by Djokovic caused great controversy and aroused strong opposition from the Australian public. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Thursday that Djokovic is not an exception and the same rules will apply to everyone.

“Mr. Djokovic’s visa has been cancelled. The rules are the rules, especially on our borders. No one can override these rules. Our strong border policy for Australia is caused by the new crown virus in the world. One of the countries with the lowest mortality rate is crucial, and we will continue to be vigilant,” Morrison wrote on Twitter.
