Omicron scare from Delhi to Mumbai: Curbs put in place by states

The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, was dissatisfied with the lack of opportunity to speak at a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday. According to PTI News Agency, this development has caused pain for the entire state government.

Prime Minister Modi participated in the second meeting of the “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” National Committee, and other chief ministers also attended the meeting. Banerjee expressed his dissatisfaction with not having the opportunity to speak at the virtual meeting.

The sister publication of the Hindustan Times, Livehindustan, quoted a National Secretariat official as saying that Banerjee’s name was not on the list of speakers.

This is not the first time Banerjee has accused the center of not giving her a chance to speak. A similar incident occurred in May of this year, when the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister met to review the situation of the Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) and the preparations of government agencies.

At the time, Banerjee had stated that she felt “insulted.” The Chief Minister once said that instead of sending officials to attend the meeting, she attended the meeting in person and urged the central government to provide the Covid-19 vaccine. According to a government statement, it led to the emergence of a “new world order” in the post-Covid era.

He emphasized that now is a good time to look forward to the country’s 100th anniversary of independence in 2047. He said that by then, the contemporary people will be at the helm, and the country’s destiny will be in their hands.

“So it is important to decide what we must instill in them now so that they can make a significant contribution to the country in the future,” the prime minister said. He added: “We have always insisted and strived for our rights, but fulfilling our duties is greater.” Prime Minister Modi said that only when people perform their duties religiously can they automatically ensure the rights of others.
