Petrol now costs over ₹100 per liter in all 4 metro cities in India
Despite a slight fall in international crude oil prices, state-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) on Wednesday increased fuel prices. The rates of petrol and diesel were increased by 35 paise and 17 paise respectively.
After today’s hike, the price of petrol has crossed Rs 100 per liter in Delhi and Kolkata. A liter of petrol is being sold at Rs 100.21 in the national capital Delhi and Rs 100.23 in Kolkata. The price of petrol in Mumbai has crossed Rs 106 per liter, while in Chennai it is priced at Rs 101.06 per liter.
There are more than two dozen cities including major cities like Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Patna, and Thiruvananthapuram where the price of petrol has crossed the three-digit mark.
Meanwhile, the price of diesel has gone up to Rs 89.53 per liter in New Delhi and Rs 97.09 per liter in Mumbai. The price in Kolkata is Rs 92.50 per liter, and it has crossed Rs 94 per liter in Chennai. In fact, the price of diesel has crossed three digits even in Sri Ganganagar of Rajasthan.
The fuel prices have been hiked 36 times since May 4 and the rates have increased by at least Rs 7-8 per liter during this period. The sharp rise in domestic fuel prices is due to the increase in international crude oil rates.
