PM’s advisor Amarjeet Sinha resigns 7 months before completion of term: Reports

Amarjeet Sinha, one of the top bureaucrats in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), has resigned as special advisor. A 1983-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer, Amarjeet Sinha had superannuated in 2019 as the Rural Development Secretary in the Government of India.

He was appointed a key advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2020 for a period of two years. Amarjeet Sinha had a remaining tenure of seven months when he decided to resign on Monday. As special advisor to PM Modi, Amarjeet Sinha handled all social sector schemes and policies. Top sources in the government confirmed that Sinha held a post that was central to PM Modi’s politics through delivery of big ticket social welfare schemes and initiatives.

However, sources could not confirm the specific reason behind Amarjeet Sinha’s exit from the PMO well before the end of his tenure. The official website of the PMO now lists only retired IAS officer Bhaskar Khulbe as special advisor to PM Modi.

PK Sinha, another principal advisor, was next in line to leave the PMO. Sinha had been appointed a special advisor to PM Modi following his retirement as Union Cabinet Secretary. At present, IAS officer PK Mishra is principal secretary to PM Narendra Modi, while S Gopalakrishnan, Arvind Shrivastava and P Amudha are additional secretaries and Rudra Gaurav Shresth, C Sridhar and Rohit Yadav are joint secretaries in the PMO.

The Greater Noida authority is set to issue a tender to finalise a contractor to build a 1.5km stretch of a key road connecting LG Chowk to the education hub in sector Knowledge Park 3. The private firm owning the land has agreed to give it away for the road project after 15 years of negotiations. The authority will build a central verge, drainage network, horticulture.

The work has been expedited after resolving a land dispute, as the road will witness heavy traffic once the bridge is ready. The authority will build a central verge, drainage network, and horticulture work to beautify the road, which has experienced frequent.
