Rahul Gandhi on video of Indians in Ukraine: ‘Can’t abandon our own people
With tens of thousands of Indians stranded in Ukraine amid Europe’s worst crisis in decades, MP Rahul Gandhi took a fresh look at the issue on Twitter, urging the government to “urge a dialogue with those trapped and Their families share detailed evacuation plans.” “My heart goes out to Indian students who suffered this violence and their families watching these videos. No parent should be going through this. GOI urgently needs to share detailed details with stranded people and their families. Evacuation plan. We cannot abandon our people (sic),” Gandhi wrote.
He shared a video that appeared to capture the excitement as guards on the border with Ukraine violently shoved some people. “Look how they beat up girls,” a man was heard saying. Tens of thousands of people have fled Ukraine since Russia launched a full-scale invasion on Thursday. Kiev said more than 350 civilians were killed.
Video shared by Gandhi reportedly showed some Indian students being harassed as they tried to enter Poland. Poland says Indian students do not need a visa to enter the country.
With Ukrainian airspace still closed, the central government last week developed alternative evacuation plans with the help of Hungary, Poland, Romania and the Slovak Republic. The government issued a statement urging students not to reach border crossings without coordinating with relevant officials.

Foreign Minister Harsh Vardan Shringra briefed the prime minister on the current situation in Ukraine, with particular attention to evacuation operations, the source said. About 2,000 Indians were brought back as part of the evacuation, the government said on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured in a speech in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, that the center is “working around the clock to ensure the return of all Ukrainian Indians”.
Congress attacked the administration over the evacuation. While Rahul Gandhi frequently shares photos and videos on Twitter, another party leader, Randeep Surjwala, said on Sunday that Prime Minister Modi was visiting Uttar Pradesh despite the major crisis, Focus on the campaign.
