Rahul’s Punjab virtual rally: Cong claims 900,000 people joined in 2 hours

Speaking at a virtual rally “Navi Soch Nava Punjab” shortly after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s one-day visit to Punjab culminated on Thursday, the party claimed that in two hours, as many as Nine hundred thousand (900,000) people connected on various platforms to join the rally.

Speaking at a virtual rally in Jalandhar, Rahul Gandhi said: “We discussed in the car who would lead Punjab forward. Media sources called him the CM candidate. Both Channiji and Sidhuji told me that was the most critical The question of who will lead Congress.”

Rohan Gupta, head of social media at AICC, told ANI: “Over 4,00,000 people viewed 30,000 comments on social media, 9,000 shares and over 900,000 people arrived within two hours of the rally, making it the most successful A hybrid virtual country rally.”

“This gigantic virtual rally was built after the hard work of all sections of the Congress Party with complete cohesion to create a foolproof system at the Jalandhar rally grounds, Rahul Gandhi, Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi and PCC Chairman Navjot Singh Sidhu and other Congress leaders addressed the public both physically and digitally,” he added.

Turning to the arrangements for virtual rallies, Gupta said the arrangements were made in all 117 parliamentary constituencies, with input from congressional leaders adhering to COVID protocols. “The digital relay from the Jalandhar venue connects the parliamentary constituencies and the 22 district headquarters in Punjab through all 117 LEDs, with up to 300 people gathered at each location in accordance with the strictest Covid19 protocols,” he said.

Notably, this is Rahul Gandhi’s first visit since India’s Election Commission banned rallies earlier this month.

Punjab will go to parliamentary vote on February 20. Counting will take place on March 10.

IDF releases video of Hamas’ Yahya Sinwar dodging drone moments before death

Yahya Sinwar, who was the alleged mastermind behind the October 7 attacks, was killed in Gaza on Wednesday.

The Israeli Defence Forces or IDF released footage from a drone on Friday that captured Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar moments before his death in a firefight against the troops in Gaza’s Rafah on Wednesday.

The video shows a building filled with debris, where a man is sitting on an armchair covered with dust with his face wrapped, who is supposedly Sinwar. He then proceeds to throw a stick towards, the drone but misses.

Along with Sinwar, the IDF also confirmed the death of two other “terrorists”.

Yahya Sinwar took over as the chief of Hamas after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in July 2024. He was supposedly the architect of the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked the conflict in the Gaza strip.

Sinwar’s death has been celebrated by Israel as well as its key allies, the US and France.

After Sinwar’s death Israeli prime minister Netanyahu released a video statement, where he stated, “Today we have settled the score. Today evil has been dealt a blow but our task has still not been completed.”

U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller called Sinwar the “chief obstacle” to ending the war and expressed hope for more headway in the peace process.

French president Emmanuel Macron has also expressed the hope that hostages will be returned now that the political head of the militant organisation is dead.

However, Iran, has stated that the death of Sinwar will only serve as a catalyst for further resistance against Israel.

The Hezbollah also proclaimed that after the death of Sinwar they were going to “transition to a new and escalating phase in the confrontation with Israel.”
