Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 to claim Super Cup title
Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday after goals from Luka Modric and Karim Benzema helped Real Madrid beat Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in Saudi Arabia.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 38th minute when Rodrigo dashed past two defenders and then passed to Modric, who slid the ball into the back of the net.
Benzema extended his lead in the second half after the video assistant referee spotted a handball from Yere Alvarez in the penalty area.
Real’s numbers were reduced to 10 three minutes after Eder Militao was sent off for goal-line handball.
Real goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois brilliantly blocked Raul Garcia’s penalty with his left foot just before he died.
“You never get tired of winning,” Modric told a news conference.
“I enjoy every title and when you play at Real Madrid you have to win. It’s part of the DNA of this club. The fans expect the most from you. So now we have to look forward to winning more months next time .”
After two brilliant semi-finals, the final was a one-sided confrontation, with Real Madrid completely dominating and never facing any real danger.

Gambhir acknowledges that his “sole regret in seven years of captaincy” is Suryakumar Yadav: “KKR failed to recognise his potential.”
