Reasons Why Delhi Has Witnessed A Sudden Spike In Coronavirus Cases

As Sources , Delhi is the third worst-hit state in India after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu in terms of having the maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country. The Union Territory currently has over 23,645 confirmed cases including 13,497 active cases, 9,542 recovered and 606 deaths. While Maharashtra and TN tally stands at 74,860 and 25,872 respectively. The number of cases of novel coronavirus disease is unabated in the national capital.

The government has also sealed its borders with the states of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in places like Gurugram, Faridabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. It has also mandated for seven days home quarantine for all asymptomatic passengers coming to Delhi.

Meanwhile, the rising number of cases in the national capital continue to give sleepless nights to the Delhi government and it has tightened the criteria for testing of COVID-19. It has restricted the criteria for testing close contacts and said that the asymptomatic close contacts will only be tested if they have comorbidity.

Expert, Dr. Col. Vijay Dutta of the Internal Medicine Department of the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Delhi, told IANS that an increased number of testing and unlock 1 are the most important factors responsible for the spike in the cases here. “The sudden spike is happening due to the number of testing that has increased and now the markets are open, it will go further.”
