Shahid Afridi recalls Pakistan cricket’s darkest days, saying, “Our fields were turned into wedding halls.”

It’s been almost a decade since Pakistan cricket was hit by the worst scandal in its history. Match-fixing allegations against some of the biggest names in the sport rocked the country and left many fans heartbroken.

In an interview with the BBC, Shahid Afridi, one of Pakistan’s most popular cricketers, has spoken about those dark days.

“It was very tough, not just for the players but for everyone associated with Pakistan cricket,” Afridi said.

“Our fields were turned into wedding halls and it was hard to see that happening to a game we all love so much.”

The scandal led to lengthy bans for some of Pakistan’s biggest stars, including Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif.

Others, like Afridi, were cleared of any wrongdoing but the damage had been done.

“It was a tough time for Pakistan cricket but I’m glad that we’ve been able to move on from it,” Afridi said.

“There’s still a long way to go but I’m confident that Pakistan cricket is heading in the right direction.”

Family Star review

The Hindustan Times’ review of the movie Family Star, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Parasuram Petla, suggests that the film struggles to make a mark or entertain, with issues reminiscent of Geetha Govindam (2018). The film tests patience and fails to maintain interest as it progresses.

The review criticizes the plot of Family Star, stating that it is thin and defies logic, making it difficult to enjoy. It also suggests that the film’s portrayal of middle-class life is caricaturish, as if it was written by someone unfamiliar with the realities of such a life.
