SMS warnings, passport seizure: Highlights of UK’s plan to check drug menace

The British government of Boris Johnson will announce a series of drastic measures today to deal with the drug threat in the country. British Home Secretary Priti Patel called drugs “the scourge of our society”.

According to the “Daily Mail” report, the 10-year plan to combat drug crimes will dominate and dismantle more than 2,000 “county line” materials.

With the implementation of the new law, the British government will issue a “criminal score card” designed to identify weaknesses in handling a range of crimes.

The scope of drug testing will be expanded, and advertising campaigns will be launched on university campuses to warn students that drugs are dangerous to life.

As funding increased and police were equipped with more tools to check the spread of drugs and catch criminals, Prime Minister Johnson issued a warning to “lifestyle” users whose cash allowed the industry to make ends meet.

One of the surprising measures is to send SMS warnings from the police to middle-class drug addicts. According to the “Daily Mail” report, the new strategy will allow detectives to directly contact the phone of the user who found the number on the dealer’s mobile phone. Additional powers will also be introduced to allow authorities to confiscate the passports and driving licenses of repeat offenders.

Interior Secretary Pritty Patel stated in an article in the “Daily Mail” that such repeat offenders may also be placed under a curfew at home.

She said that last year, nearly 3,000 people in England and Wales died from drug abuse-more than the total number of deaths from knife crimes and road traffic accidents.

“Drugs are the main driving force of crime. Abusers steal to fuel their habits, and these substances are the main factor in murder and other violent crimes,” Patel said, adding that as the Secretary of the Interior, she would not be here. This kind of dehumanization of exploitation and crime will stand by when it happens.
