WATCH: Haris Rauf gets a wicket, then wipes hands virtually and puts on a mask in epic BBL celebration, video goes viral

Pakistan’s Haris Rauf is known for his eccentric celebrations after the penalty kick, and another unique performance in the Melbourne Stars jersey drew attention. The 28-year-old Rauf came up with a “COVID-safe” celebration, gesturing to sanitize his hands and wear a mask after taking Kurtis Patterson’s wicket.

It all happened in Game 3 of the Big Bash League (BBL) match between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Stars. Raouf threw a pitch that slanted off the stump to lure Patterson into a screen. But the batsman threw the ball to keeper Joe Clark, and Rauf’s hilarious celebration ensued.

After the referee raised his finger, Raouf took out disinfectant from his pocket. The Pakistani seaman then pulled out a mask and put it on, splitting his teammates and even commentators.

Rauf finished 2-for-38 in his four overs, and the Perth Scorchers scored 117 times in their final 10 overs for a 196/3 aggregate run. Nick Hobson had 46 after Patterson left for eight early, while wicketkeeper Laurie Evans had 69 before getting caught on a Raff pass in the 12th. Skipper Ashton Turner followed with a 26-ball 47 to help the Scorchers to a daunting total on the scoreboard. This isn’t the first instance of Rauf’s offering of an unprecedented wicket celebration. He has previously made headlines for throat-smothering celebrations.

Raouf motioned to slit his throat while making an aggressive gesture to the batsman. He came up with the “adaab” celebration after being criticized for being too aggressive in cutting his throat.

Rauf, who was part of Pakistan’s 2021 World Cup T20 team and reached the semi-finals, recently shared a photo of the CSK jersey signed by MS Dhoni from the Chennai Super Kings captain in the news.

Rauf wrote on his official Twitter account: “Legend and captain @msdhoni sent me his shirt with this beautiful gift. 7″ still wins hearts through his kindness and gestures. @ russcsk especially appreciates your kind support.”
