Trinamool Congress (TMC) hinted on Friday that it may form an alliance with other opposition parties in Goa before the upcoming poll with party MP Mahua Moitra, and announced on Twitter that TMC is willing to “do everything possible to defeat the BJP in Goa.”
“Don’t worry, we AITC will do everything possible to beat BJP in Goa-@Goaforwardparty, @INCGoa, @AITC4Goa and #MGP. @Mamataofficial (AITC Chairman Mamata Banerjee) has done this in the past and will not avoid it in Goa Take [the] extra miles,” Moitra tweeted on Friday.
Moitra’s tweet comes as the state plans to vote sometime in February/March. The state’s report stated that the TMC-MGP (Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), which has declared a voting alliance, is willing to cooperate with Congress and Goa. The Kadima Party has announced a separate coalition for voting.

Goa’s Progressive Party, which until recently called for the need to “send home the ideologically divergent joint venture” in reference to the seemingly opposite ideological leanings of the MGP and Trinamool Congress, has now reached a more moderate-toned call with party chairman Vijai Sardesai ‘Team Goa’ beats ‘BJP Game Plan’.
“@BJP4Goa will use #COVIDThirdWave restrictions to rig the electoral process to take power. We must see the danger with @INCGoa, @AITC4Goa and #MGP, rise above our egos and thwart this divide and conquer scheme. This is what #Goa wants to do Yes,” Sardesai tweeted on Thursday night as Goa’s three opposition parties and the TMC were considering patching the fence ahead of the polls.
The Trinamool Assembly, the latest addition to Goa’s political scene, has largely been expanded by poaching members of Congress and the Goa Progressive Party, and talks are understood to have opened with both parties, but the issue of seat sharing is still up for discussion.
Earlier, it was reported that the MGP, which had agreed to align with the TMC, was not enthusiastic about aligning with the TMC and leaned toward Congress.
