‘Worth the wait’: India’s legendary pacer eager to watch Bumrah-Archer ‘bowl in tandem’ in IPL
Mumbai Indians (MI) director of cricket operations Zaheer Khan can’t wait to see the England racer take on Jasprit Bumrah on the pitch at the Jofra Archer on day 2 of the big Indian Premier League (IPL) auction partner.
However, due to injury, Archer will not be able to play in the upcoming edition, but Khan thinks it will be worth the wait to watch the duo start tandem bowling for the team in a future T20 league.
“You eagerly wait for a partner to come on the field, and so do I. Seeing two legendary fast bowlers bowling in tandem, I’m glad it seems possible and worth the wait,” Khan was quoted as saying in an ANI report.
Despite being unavailable, Archer generated good interest from multiple franchises before it was eventually acquired by MI for Rs 8 crore. The England striker will only play for the team from next season.
The five-time IPL champion also has Singapore’s formidable batsman Tim David, whom many see as the perfect fit in Hardik Pandya’s absence. The Singapore-Australian cricketer was sold to MI for Rs 825 crore.
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene shared his thoughts on the acquisition of David, saying: “He’s a red-hot player at the moment, known to be a tough batsman. We know we have available Funding, many hundreds of players are targeting us. Like Bumrah-Archer with the ball, Pollard-David can with the bat.
Meanwhile, the team has also acquired young wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan for Rs 15.25 crore, the most expensive acquisition.
“Ishan Kishan is an Indian batsman, he is a left-handed batsman. We always back ourselves when we see talent, Ishan is 23 years old and he is an important aspect of the team, that’s what Why we value him as a team. The dynamics of the auction, that’s the auction, and we’re delighted to have him. Ishan has worked hard, he’s evolved. We’re looking forward to it,” added Jayawardene.
