YouTube Discontinues Annual Rewind Video, Plans Global End-Of-Year Interactive Experience Instead

The company has confirmed that YouTube will no longer produce its annual year-end rewind video. YouTube Rewind is a project that was cancelled last year due to COVID-19 and will not make a comeback this year.

In fact, the company has decided to stop making rewind videos altogether, claiming that the platform is too large and it is impossible to integrate all its aspects into a few minutes-long video. YouTube stated that the responsibility for making the rewind video is left to the creator.

The video platform was severely criticized in 2018 for its rewind video, and it quickly became the least popular video ever. Tubefilter quoted a YouTube spokesperson as saying that YouTube has disabled its Rewind videos and handed over the responsibility to the creators to provide their views on the concept.

In recent years, some creators have published their own versions of YouTube Rewind videos on the platform. According to reports, the video platform will not fund any rewind videos produced by these creators. However, the report said it will promote them on its social channels. Although the Rewind video will no longer be produced by YouTube, it is reported that it will continue to produce its annual trend list and will also receive a Streamy Award.

The company also mocked the arrival of the global year-end interactive experience. However, more details were not disclosed. A YouTube spokesperson told the publication, “Since Rewind started in 2011, we have seen creators from MrBeast [54 million views], elrubiusOMG and Slayy Point, and more creators who have produced their own year-end The video uniquely captures the year from the perspective of each of them.
