Canalys observes that manufacturers will not be able to meet the expected demand soaring again this holiday season. Latin America (LATAM), Asia Pacific (excluding Japan), and Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) have seen strong annual growth in PC shipments. The Canalys report stated that despite the disruption of the global supply chain and logistics network caused by COVID-19, global PC shipments reached 84.1 million units in the third quarter of 2021.

Shipments of notebook computers and mobile workstations increased 3% year-on-year to 67.4 million units, while shipments of desktop computers and desktop workstations increased 12% year-on-year to 16.6 million units. The surge in demand for personal computers is attributed to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus that encourages remote work.

Lenovo is the largest contributor to PC shipments in the third quarter of 2021, with shipments of 19.77 million units, an annual growth rate of 2.5%. Lenovo’s market share in the aforementioned period was 23.5%. Although due to the decline in Chromebook shipments to the United States, HP’s product shipments reached 17.597 million, with a market share of 20.9%, despite a year-on-year decrease of 5.7% compared to last year’s data.

Dell’s shipments reached 15.18 million units, with the highest growth rate of 26.7%, and a market share of 18.1%, showing impressive performance. The annual growth rates of Apple and Acer are 14.4% and 5.7% respectively. Apple gained 9.3% market share with 7,824 units shipped, while Acer gained 7.2% market share with 6,076 units shipped. Canalys Research Director Rushabh Doshi said that new opportunities, including the latest mixed work culture, can promote the development of the industry.

“The mixed working model will become an important part of the new normal after COVID-19, and will require PC vendors to enhance their product portfolios and go-to-market strategies, as faster processors, better cameras, and anytime, anywhere connectivity take center stage.
