Mr. India director Satish Kaushik does not want a remake or sequel: ‘There are a few films that should not be touched.’

Mr. India director Satish Kaushik has stated that he does not want a remake or sequel. The cult classic, which also starred Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri, was released in 1987. The Shekhar Kapur film introduced the audience to the iconic villain Mogambo and his equally popular line, as well as setting a precedent in Hindi cinema for the rarely seen superhero genre. The film has been remade in Tamil and Kannada.

Satish Kaushik, who played Calendar in the movie, has now stated that the film should not be remade or given a sequel in today’s world. The actor stated that no one other than Anil Kapoor could do justice to the role of Mr. India, aka Arun Verma, and that some things should be left alone.

According to ETimes, he said, “There are a few films that, in my opinion, should not be touched, whether for a remake or sequel. Mr. India is one of those films that, in my opinion, should not be remade because it will lose its charm. Mr. India was the result of a group of talented people working together to make a fun film. Everyone believed in the project, from Shekhar Kapur to Boney Kapoor, Javed Akhtar to special effects, action directors, and the cast and crew, including cinematographer Baba Azmi, action director Veeru Devgan, Peter Periera (special effects camera), Art Director Bijon Das Gupta, choreographer Saroj Khan, and music composers Laxmikant Pyarelal.”

“It’s such an iconic film with such a great legacy,” Satish continued, “that if it ever comes out, it can only be pulled off by Anil Kapoor, and no one else.”

Ali Abbas Zafar, a filmmaker, announced in 2020 that he would be making a film called Mr India. “It’s a completely new film, we’re just calling it Mr India,” the filmmaker clarified when asked if the film was a sequel or remake. My film is essentially about a common man battling a powerful villain, but in a cool, hip way that incorporates science and technology while remaining relevant to today’s social situation.”

Satish recently reunited with Anil for the Netflix film Thar, in which Anil’s son Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor also starred. Satish and Anil starred as cops in the Netflix western noir that premiered on May 6.
