AP plans 660 km Bengaluru-Vijayawada e-way project

Andhra Pradesh government has planned to build 660 km long Bengaluru-Vijayawada expressway to connect Bengaluru to Andhra Pradesh’s legislative capital Amaravati, near Vijayawada.

The state government has given a presentation to the Union transport ministry and now the ministry is in the process to appoint a consultant to prepare a detailed project report based on which the alignment, cost and other factors will be decided. One of the options is to make the current Bengaluru-Hyderabad expressway into an access-controlled highway by building flyovers and service roads and the Amaravati expressway will be merged with the Bengaluru-Hyderabad expressway till Anantapur.

The sanctioning process is in the final stage. Currently, it takes more than 12 hours to reach Vijayawada from Bengaluru because the road crisscrosses Kolar, Chittoor and Tirupati before joining the golden quadrilateral at Vijayawada. As per the new plan, a new brownfield alignment will connect Bengaluru to Anantapur on the Bengaluru-Hyderabad highway. From Anantapur, the expressway will lead to Pulivendula, then towards Kadapa, Nandyal, Markapur, Narasaraopet, Guntur and finally to Vijayawada.
