Lakhimpur Kheri: Supreme Court to hear today PIL seeking fair probe

The Supreme Court will hear a Public Interest litigation (PIL) on the violent incident that resulted in the deaths of eight people in Lakhimpur Kheri , Uttar Pradesh earlier this month, including four farmers and a journalist on Wednesday.

The court accepted the case, and at the last hearing, due to the unsatisfactory progress of the investigation, the son of the Union Minister was one of the main defendants in the incident. The Union Minister of the Interior, Ashish Mishra, was arrested by the police six days after being charged in the Tikunia village of Lakhimpur Kheri. He received a series of interrogation summons and was sharply criticized by the opposition. , They claimed that the police action was postponed due to the defendant’s political status.

The Supreme Court also expressed dissatisfaction with the investigation conducted by the state government in this case and requested the UP government to instruct its state police chief to ensure that the evidence in the case is protected until another agency takes over. Currently, a special investigation team (SIT) set up by the Yogi Adityanath government is investigating the Kheri incident. The team released photos of six people standing near the SUV that caught fire in the October 3 incident on Tuesday.

SIT official as saying: “The SIT team investigating the violence on October 3 got some photos and videos” agency. “We are posting photos and calling people to recognize them. Six photos have been posted for recognition.” So far, 10 people including Ashish Mishra have been arrested in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri.

The farmer claimed that Mishra appeared in one of the vehicles that ran over the group of people in the incident. However, the son of the Union Minister denied the allegation, but claimed that he was participating in a wrestling match in Banbirpur at the time.
