Maharashtra Bypolls: BJP Wins 22 Of 85 Zilla Parishad Seats
According to the results announced by the national elections, the BJP won 22 of the 85 zilla diocese seats in six regions of Maharashtra on Wednesday, while the Congress won 144 Panchayat Samiti seats provided by its jurisdiction. 36 seats were reserved. Committee (SEC).
The by-elections for 84 vacant seats of 6 Zilla Parishads (ZP)-Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Washim, Nagpur, Palghar, and 141 seats out of 37 Panchayat Samitis under the jurisdiction of these regions were held on Tuesday and were held. The votes were counted on Wednesday.
Candidates for one ZP seat (85 seats in total) and three Panchayat Samiti wards (144 years old in total) were selected as ungraded. Among the 85 seats provided by the 6 ZPs, BJP won the highest 22 seats, while Congress, NCP and Shiv Sena (all members of the ruling MVA) won 19, 15 and 12 seats (46 in total) . The US Securities and Exchange Commission stated that independents won 4 seats, CPI (M) 1 and others won 12 seats. The SEC results showed that in Panchayat Samiti’s vote, Congress won the highest 36 seats out of 144 seats, followed by BJP 33, Shiv Sena 23 and NCP with 18 seats. Independent candidates won 7 seats, and Navnirman Sena in Maharashtra and other registered political parties won 26 Panchayat Samiti seats.
Allies of MVA (Maha Vikas Aghadi) won 73 of the 144 Panchayat Samiti seats. In the deputy poll with a voter turnout of approximately 63%, as many as 367 candidates participated in the competition for the ZP seat, and 555 candidates competed for the Panchayat Samiti seat. After the Supreme Court ruled on the OBC quota for local agencies, by-elections became necessary.
Ashok Chavan, Minister of Maharashtra PWD in the National Assembly, stated that due to the retention of (work and education) and OBC political quotas (other backward classes) in Maratha. “Whether it is the Maratha reservation or the OBC political reservation, the BJP applies double standards every time. When the central government has the opportunity to play a decisive role in maintaining these reservations, the BJP did not make the right decision,” Chavan said.
The minister in charge of the Cabinet Subcommittee on Maratha Quotas stated that out of the 85 vacant seats in the ZP, Congress had 13 members earlier but has now won 17 seats. He said that Maha Vikas Aghadi’s allies won 46 ZP seats this time, compared to 37 before, even though they voted separately. On the other hand, Chawan said that the BJP’s seats have dropped from 31 to 22, while Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s seats have dropped from 12 to 8.
The leader of the People’s Party, Devendra Fadnavis, said the poll results showed who is growing at the expense of Shiv Sena and how the foundation of the party led by Uddhav Thackeray has further declined. The former chief minister claimed that the BJP has been growing steadily in the state.

IDF releases video of Hamas’ Yahya Sinwar dodging drone moments before death
Yahya Sinwar, who was the alleged mastermind behind the October 7 attacks, was killed in Gaza on Wednesday.
The Israeli Defence Forces or IDF released footage from a drone on Friday that captured Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar moments before his death in a firefight against the troops in Gaza’s Rafah on Wednesday.
The video shows a building filled with debris, where a man is sitting on an armchair covered with dust with his face wrapped, who is supposedly Sinwar. He then proceeds to throw a stick towards, the drone but misses.

Along with Sinwar, the IDF also confirmed the death of two other “terrorists”.
Yahya Sinwar took over as the chief of Hamas after the killing of Ismail Haniyeh in July 2024. He was supposedly the architect of the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which sparked the conflict in the Gaza strip.

Sinwar’s death has been celebrated by Israel as well as its key allies, the US and France.
After Sinwar’s death Israeli prime minister Netanyahu released a video statement, where he stated, “Today we have settled the score. Today evil has been dealt a blow but our task has still not been completed.”
U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller called Sinwar the “chief obstacle” to ending the war and expressed hope for more headway in the peace process.
French president Emmanuel Macron has also expressed the hope that hostages will be returned now that the political head of the militant organisation is dead.
However, Iran, has stated that the death of Sinwar will only serve as a catalyst for further resistance against Israel.
The Hezbollah also proclaimed that after the death of Sinwar they were going to “transition to a new and escalating phase in the confrontation with Israel.”
