Shakuntalam: Samantha is ethereal as the divine beauty in first look poster

Samantha Ruth Prabhu shares a movie look poster for her upcoming movie Shakuntalam. She captioned her post, “presenting…nature’s darlings…ethereal and dignified…Shakuntala of #Shaakuntalam.”

The poster shows Samantha in a forest surrounded by animals and birds. She was sitting on a rock with a kettle beside her. She was wearing a white blouse and white sari with floral ornaments.

In her Hindu mythology, Shakuntala is the daughter of Meneka and Rishi Vishwamitra. She lives in the forest with her teacher, Rishi Kanva. She met King Duhyant in the forest, fell in love with him, and the two got married. After giving birth to her child (who would later become King Bharat), Dushyant left her in the forest, promising to return to pick her up soon. However, due to the curse of the saint, Dushyant forgot everything about Shakuntala until fate brought them back together.

Speaking of the film, Samantha told Filmfare last year, “I’ve always liked to choose films that are completely different from my previous work. Shakuntalam is the polar opposite, from the other end of the Raj spectrum. Every shot is perfect, Every picture is a painting. I have to look as beautiful as I’ve ever seen! So the pressure is there. It’s fascinating. I’ve always been obsessed with mythology and historical dramas and this princess world. I really love that I’m in Shaakuntalam’s dream character. I’ve been a Disney fan all my life and Shaakuntalam is everything I could ask for. In some shots I can’t believe it’s me…actually in many shots I can’t believe it’s me! The team Great job on the production design, costumes, lighting and makeup. I just had to show up.”

Shakuntalam is directed by Gunasekhar and produced by Neelima Guna. Gunasekhar is best known for his epic historical drama Rudhramadevi starring Anushka Shetty. Shakuntalam is published in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

Samantha recently starred in the Telugu movie Pushpa, where she danced to the popular song Oa Antava. Last year, Samantha played a Sri Lankan Tamil rebel in season 2 of the hit web series Family Portrait. She played a character called Raj and her performance was well received.

She is still waiting for the release of the Tamil romantic comedy Kaathu Vaakula Rendu Kaadhal. The film is directed by Vignesh Shivn and stars Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara.

At seven o’clock, Raj Babbar’s daughter learnt of his liaison with Smita Patil. “I shouldn’t tell my mother about this.”

Raj Babbar left his wife, Nadira, to marry Smita Patil in 1983. His daughter Juhi Babbar has recalled the time in a new interview.
Actor Raj Babbar was already married and had two children when he began his relationship with fellow actor, Smita Patil. The affair and the ensuing marriage saw a lot of controversy, given how it began. Raj Babbar’s daughter, former actor Juhi Babbar, has now opened up on the time and how she came to know about the relationship when she was just 7 years old.

Juhi Babbar on Raj Babbar and Smita Patil

In an interview with Lehren Retro, Juhi recalled how Smita Patil made a conscious effort to connect with Raj’s two children – Juhi and her brother, Arya. “My father talked and explained his marriage with Smita Patil to me when I was barely seven years old, and that’s why my memories of Smita ji are very different. She went out of her way to do things for me. I think she also had this thing that we are the kids of the person who is most special to her, and so we are special to her as well. She would show us a lot of love, always bringing us gifts when she travelled, and she would ensure that at home, we were served the food that we liked. These small memories are nice, but unfortunately, there aren’t many memories,” she said.

Juhi said she was conflicted about her impression of Smita at the time because the actor was always nice to us, but she could see that the marriage had shaken up her own family, particularly her mother, Nadira. “As a child, I knew this is the lady my father wants to be with, and he wants to make her his wife. I could see Smita making an effort towards me and my little brother, but I also knew that this was disturbing the unit that used to be, and that my mother was unhappy about it. I had that understanding—that aunty (Smita) was being so good to me, but when I go home, I shouldn’t share this with my mother.”
