Aahana Kumra: No more playing the protagonist’s girlfriend

The actor Aahana S. Kumra is eager to take on roles that will allow her to bear them on her shoulder. “I’m looking for meaty jobs. Why should I portray the heroine’s girlfriend or a role that doesn’t advance the plot? That’s what I’ve already done, so stop! I believe I could be a show’s headlining act. With the web series Marzi, I tested it,” says Kumra.

Despite her happiness that strong female protagonist series like Delhi Crime or Maharani exist, she laments the fact that they are “few and far between.” “There are still [many] television shows with male leads or from a masculine perspective. I can’t bear to do it. However, refusing is not always simple. Additionally, budgets [for female artists] have decreased, yet for a male protagonist, they will pay a huge sum, which is unacceptable. For the same reason, I have also turned down performances, adds the The Accidental Prime Minister actor.

She exhorts television producers to choose a female protagonist or antagonist for their shows about politics, sports, or crime. “They frequently produce party-style episodes featuring characters who are relaxing or preoccupied with relationships for ladies… I can play such characters because my mother was a police officer, claims Kumra. “What happens with us (female actors),” she continues, “is that after we complete a project, we receive proposals for the same character in five series. For instance, everyone is offering me roles comparable to the one I played in Avrodh 2 now! I’m making an effort to avoid using the same characters twice.

Family Star review

The Hindustan Times’ review of the movie Family Star, starring Vijay Deverakonda and directed by Parasuram Petla, suggests that the film struggles to make a mark or entertain, with issues reminiscent of Geetha Govindam (2018). The film tests patience and fails to maintain interest as it progresses.

The review criticizes the plot of Family Star, stating that it is thin and defies logic, making it difficult to enjoy. It also suggests that the film’s portrayal of middle-class life is caricaturish, as if it was written by someone unfamiliar with the realities of such a life.
