Taliban forms joint ministerial committee to address Durand line issues
The Taliban on Monday formed a joint ministerial committee to address the issues amid the Pakistani military’s operation to build a fence along the Durand Line.
According to Tolo News, the decision to form a joint committee of multiple ministries was made at a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister’s Second Deputy Minister Abdul Salam Hanafi.
“The goal of the Joint Commission is to address the issues along the Durand Line and to address security issues that may arise in the future – or have occurred in the past – which should be addressed through understanding,” said Inamullah, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of mangani.
According to Tolo News, the move follows a visit to Kabul by Pakistan’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf.
The Pakistani delegation, led by the National Security Service Yusuf, returned to Islamabad on Sunday evening after a two-day visit with several officials from the Islamic emirate.
Pakistan’s foreign ministry said in a statement that the purpose of the visit was to discuss Pakistan’s proposals for deepening economic engagement, Tolo News reported.
“During the visit, Pakistan provided capacity building and training support to Afghanistan in various fields such as health, education, banking, customs, railways and aviation. The two sides also reaffirmed their commitment to the early completion of the three major connectivity projects CASA. – 1000, TAPI and Trans-Afghanistan Railway Project,” the statement read.
“We should set up a committee to take down the fence. This is an issue that cannot be resolved by setting up a joint committee. This issue belongs to the Afghans on both sides of the Durand Line,” said Ahmed. Khan Andar, political analyst .
Earlier, a video circulated on social media showed Islamic Emirate forces fighting with Pakistani militias over the fence of the Durand Line.
The Durand Line is the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, named after a British colonel in the 1890s. Although Pakistan and the international community recognize the Durand Line, Afghanistan has always denied formally accepting it.
