Poll percentage during five phase voting in UP same as in 2017 elections

Turnout for nearly two-thirds of parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh’s five rounds of elections was about the same as in 2017 polls, leading political parties and pundits to speculate on whether to vote for or against incumbent MPs.
Looking at the turnout for the 2019 state elections, there isn’t much of a difference. While some attribute it to the coronavirus, others say voters have tested all parties in the polls and are not interested in new campaign promises from competing parties.

Politically significant states have completed five rounds of the seven election stages, with the remaining two due on March 3 and 7. The results will be announced on March 10 along with the results from Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.

Voter turnout in 58 parliamentary constituencies in western Uttar Pradesh was 62.43% in the opening stage of the February 10 election. 63.47% in 2017 and 61.84% in the last federal election. But Keirana, who previously made headlines for her coverage of policing immigration, jumped from 69.56 percent to 75.12 percent.
On February 14, the turnout in the second round of voting in 55 parliamentary sessions was 64.42 percent, up from 65.53 percent five years ago and 63.13 percent in the last general election, according to the Elections Bureau. Jailed SP leader Azam Khan’s Hot Seat Rampur had almost the same turnout at 63.92 percent compared to 63.97 percent in 2017, with a vote share of 62.28, compared to 62.21 percent five years ago and 59.73 in the last parliamentary election. According to reports, this is the second highest vote share in the Mulayam Singh Yadav fort after 71.4% in 1974. In the fourth poll on February 23, 59 seats, including the state capital Lucknow, were voted, almost 61,52% of the Electoral Commission turnout app vote, compared to 62.55 in 2017 and 2019 % and 60.3%.
In the fifth round of 61 seats on February 27, the votes for Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Amethi and Raebareli were 57.32 percent, down from 58.24 in 2017 and 55.31 in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll.

For the sixth stage, on March 3, to vote in the high-profile seat of Gorakhpur Urban where Prime Minister Yogi Adityanath is fighting, the challenge is to surpass the 56.52 vote share in 2017.

So did the latest round on March 7, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi, with 59.56 percent in 2017. In the last general election, it was 57.48.

As for the turnout, Yogi Adityanath said it was about the same as last time and things were moving in the right direction.

Former Chief Elections Commissioner SY Quraishi told PTI, “I wonder why the turnout didn’t increase this time. Could it be because there was less effort to educate voters this time?”

Sanjay Kumar (Professor and Co-Director of the Lokniti Research Program at the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies) told PTI, “The turnout was not very low compared to the last election. The change was 1-2%.

“Normally, whenever there is a change of government, there is an atmosphere that in turn increases voter turnout. This was evident in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, when the vote share increased compared to the 2009 election, “He said. “There is ‘udaaseentaa’ (indifference) in the minds of voters (to vote). Well, whether it’s anti-government or pro-government apathy will only be known after the results are announced,” the psychiatrist said. BJP state spokesman Manish Shukla said: “Regardless of the turnout, BJP voters will get out of their homes and vote for the party. However, the same cannot be said for other parties as their voters appear to be inactive. This may be due to the SP-led coalition Divisiveness within.” Samajwadi party spokesman Rajpal Kashyap said disparities in the electoral roll and people leaving the state for work after the Covid situation eased reduced turnout. “However, the SP is making progress at every stage,” said Ashok Singh, his MP. “It’s a celebration of democracy and the party is going all out. We will achieve amazing results. The slogan ‘ladhki hoon ‘ladh saktee hoon’ has started a political revolution.” Manoj Goswami, a 75-year-old resident of Lucknow’s central parliamentary constituency, said: “I did not vote because I was worried that I would contract Covid-19.” .

Sushil Kashyap, a tea seller on Ratush Road, Lucknow, said: “We have seen various governments.

Amid the inertia of many voters, the five stages have witnessed some encouraging examples.

In Prayagrajs Allahpur, 78-year-old Bhuri Pathak took an ambulance to a polling station to exercise her right to vote with a broken hip. The next day in Lucknow, a mother who had given birth showed up at the polling station.

This time there are more than 1.466 million first-time voters (ages 18-19) in the UP poll. In total, more than 52,000 new voter names were added for the 2022 election. The total number of voters in the UP poll was more than 15.02 million.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the electoral commission has extended voting hours by an hour.
