Resolution against Centre’s BSF move passed in Punjab assembly
The Punjab Assembly passed a resolution on Thursday to oppose the center’s notice to expand the jurisdiction of the Border Security Force (BSF) and demand its withdrawal, calling it an “insult” to the state police. In the absence of two BJP members of the parliament, the House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution to “reject” the central order.
The center revised the BSF Act last month, authorizing border guards to conduct searches, seizures, and arrests within 50 kilometers of the international borders of Punjab, West Bengal, and Assam, which is currently within 15 kilometers. The resolution was proposed by Suhkind Singh Randawa, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. It said that “Punjab is the land of martyrs. They have made exemplary sacrifices in the struggle for freedom in our country.” “The Punjab police is a unique patriotic force that has made great contributions to maintaining the unity and integrity of the country. According to the Indian Constitution, maintaining law and order is the responsibility of the state government.
For this reason, the Punjab government is fully capable,” it added. Say. The Federal Government decided to expand the jurisdiction of the BSF from 15 kilometers to 50 kilometers. This is an “expression of distrust” to the state police and the people of Punjab. The resolution pointed out that this is also their “insult.” It further stated that the center should consult the state before making such a major decision, adding that the law and order situation in Punjab has been fully controlled and there is no need to expand the jurisdiction of the BSF.
“All political parties in Punjab have unanimously condemned the decision of the coalition government and demanded that the coalition government withdraw the notice issued by the Ministry of Interior of the Government of India on October 11, 2021. “Therefore, the Punjab People’s Assembly has unanimously decided that a resolution can be passed to reject the notification of the central government in this regard,” it added.
